The Government and the Environment

As we learned in chapter 5, the government plays an active role in managing supply for the country and for the good of it's citizens. 1. How many programs does the Department of Environmental Quality for the state of Michigan have? What do these programs do? How do these programs affect Michigan's consumers (you)?

2. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) administers several programs that provide incentives to local units of government, business and industry to be proactive in carrying out their environmental responsibilities. Name and describe one of these incentive programs. How does this program effect the environment and you? Do you think this is an effective incentive?

3. Climate change can be blamed for the mild winter we have had in south east Michigan this year. What are 3 things that Michigan is doing in order to address the climate change (Agriculture, energy supply, transportation, or industrial)? How do each of these activities affect you as a citizen personally and economically?
